Some aspects concerning pillows and cushions in the life of the Prophet sallallahu alaihi wa sallam:
It is sunnah to use a pillow. The Prophet sallallahu alaihi wa sallam is reported to have reclined against a pillow.
The Prophet sallallahu alaihi wa sallam used a furry pillow, with a date-palm fibre filling. Furry means the hair was not removed from the animal hide.
He used a pillow filled with husk and straw.
The Prophet sallallahu alaihi wa sallam gave his daughter a pillow filled with grass (leaves) as a gift.
The Prophet sallallahu alaihi wa sallam is reported to have used a pillow when sleeping.
The Hadith mentions that a pillow (or cushion) should not be refused when someone offers it.
In the absence of a pillow, the Prophet sallallahu alaihi wa sallam used his folded sheet as a pillow.
In honouring a guest, a cushion should be offered to him. Z
