Water, the element that occupies two-thirds of the earth, is a manifestation of the Grace of Allah. The word water occurs 66 times in the Qur’aan.
Water is the most important molecule in the life of an organism. That life originated from water is mentioned in the Qur’aan:
"… We made from water every living thing…" (21:30)
"Allah created every animal from water…" (24:45)
The Qur’aan mentions that water is a factor in the ecosystem, vital to agriculture. To conserve the environment and this resource, is an Islamic duty:
"… Eat and drink, but waste not by excess; Verily He (Allah) loves not the excessive" (7:31)
"The world is green and beautiful and God has appointed you His stewards over it. He sees how you acquit yourselves." (Muslim)
