Neatness in Islam

The Hadith places emphasis on neatness and organization. On one occasion the Prophet (sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) said to his Companions:
You are going to be meeting some of your brothers, so straighten your saddles, and dress well to the extent that you look like a shining star in the sight of the people…
[Abu Dawood]

Neatness in the Vehicle
Vehicles should be kept neat and clean. In this hadith, the Prophet (sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) commanded his Companions to straighten the saddles on their horses, which were the vehicles of those days.

Neatness in Appearance
The Prophet (sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) instructed his Companions in the above Hadith to maintain a neat and presentable appearance. Hazrat Aeysha (radhiallahu anha) once advised a woman to make herself look attractive for her husband, while Ibn Abbaas (radhiallahu anhuma) ordered a man to look handsome in the eyes of his wife in the same way that she looks attractive for him.
Once a Companion came to the Prophet (sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) with disheveled hair. The Prophet (sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) was not pleased with his appearance and asked him to adopt a neat appearance and comb his hair everyday. [Nasai pg 291]
