MUSLIM AIDS PROGRAM

MAP
The Muslim Aids Programme (MAP) is a national, Islamic-based organization founded in 1997. MAP is a joint project of the Jamiatul Ulama SA, Islamic Careline and the Islamic Medical Association. MAP is also involved in Pres Mbeki's Partnership Against AIDS initiative.
OBJECTIVES
To involve Muslims in AIDS prevention.
To make Muslim communities involved in the care of those affected by AIDS.
AIDS education based on abstinence before marriage and faithfulness in marriage.
Life-skills programme for Muslim youth to make Islamically motivated choices.
SOME PROJECTS
Workshops: AIDS awareness workshops.
Training: Train-a-trainer workshops where participants are certified as AIDS educators.
Media: Small and mass media used to promote the AIDS Awareness programme.
Seminars: Seminars on HIV/AIDS conducted for health care workers in order to equip them to manage and treat HIV/AIDS-related conditions.
